Passion for detail

I, being an average guy, with a little to no dreams, was randomly scrolling through our age’s Elysium, Instagram. Not so surprisingly a video of Mr. Shahrukh Khan, who helped a woman with her slippers while climbing a staircase during an award show popped up. And if you haven’t been living under a rock for a while, then you might have guessed the cheesy caption that was underneath the video, “King, he is”. I ain’t saying he shouldn’t have done that or or that was a bad gesture, no. It’s really sweet of him to do so, but hey, what’s there to celebrate?

Before you start busting your keyboard out with all your frustration fired towards me, let me explain why I think this might be yet another cause of global warm…..oh sorry. Where was I? Ah, celebration. We are really fixated towards respecting women, making them feel good about them with all these makeups and gestures we praise, but if we really peer into, there are a lot of loopholes, you see. While I am not a marketing chief, or anything like that, but I think I am eligible to pose, why do a customer see a need to buy something? It is when s/he feels that they are lacking that stuff in the first place, right? And the funny thing is, all this “let them wear what they want”, “let them be independent” crap only feeds into one thing that they were/are not capable of doing so on their own, so we need to let them do it. Who are we to be in authority? I don’t get this. If a woman wants something for herself then she can go and get it, she doesn’t need any of our “I will let you do whatever you want” stuff.

Secondly, we celebrate all kinds of stuff that Shahrukh Khan does for women, the gestures, the gifts, movies where a hero fights the world to get her girl and all this stuffs. But subtly, what I see in all of these things is glorification of “don’t objectify a woman” by “objectifying a woman” painted by a nice and shiny “don’t objectify a woman” narrative. Isn’t that ironical and hypocritical? We still think we need to impress women, we need to go and get them like they are whisky in a bar, we need to earn money to get a woman, we don’t force them but impress them while we believe that have utmost respect for them, and there’s no-one who values gender equality more than us.

I am not against any narrative, we need gender equity, I agree but we often forget that, why we need equity in the first place is because we think there are two different being altogether taking in account only a handful of biological evidence. We need to differentiate when there’s a need, we can’t be extremist about this, too. But a between an equally qualified male and female, gender shouldn’t become a hurdle or even a gateway to get an opportunity.

Conversely, this pattern of thinking invites another problem to our table. We start seeing women as some special creatures and deserve all the things which is just fucking obsolete. When we make a point about gender equality, we often forget that if we are not going to make negative propagandas to bring them down, we don’t need to aggrandize them and make them feel entitled to anything and everything; that’s equally wrong, too. It not only creates whole new set of bad problems but it also diverts the equity ideology back to superiority. We have converted this whole narrative of gender into a completely different domain. We have started propagandas like, “even boys cry”, “we suffer more” and all these shitty posts here and there. The point is not about who is male, who is female, who must suffer what and do what. It is not about making one superior again and make the other pact inferior. We need to understand that there’s no pact, it just in our heads and I think we will be good to go as a generation of people and leave a good message to the progenies.
